As the skin in the anal region is particularly exposed due to the closed anal cleft, it should only be cleansed with water. Soaps further damage the skin's acidic protective layer in this particular area and should be avoided, as should wet wipes, which often contain detergents or preservatives.
Baby creams are the most recommended for caring for this sensitive skin.
In case of severe skin irritation, sitz baths such as Tannolact and the insertion of soft non-woven compresses may help, possibly also cleansing after defecation with a cream (e.g. Vaseline).
Creams containing cortisone without other additives should only be used for a short period, until symptoms are acutely relieved (2 weeks maximum). After that, regular skin care with baby creams is recommended.
As soft stools are very aggressive on the skin, you need to ensure that the consistency of the stool is SHAPED (for example by taking psyllium husks in a sufficient but suitable quantity of water).
