Surgery generally takes place on an outpatient or short-stay basis at CHEM Niederkorn or Esch. This means that you arrive at the clinic on an empty stomach on the day of the operation and can leave in the afternoon or the following morning.
Cave: After an anaesthetic, you can NOT drive yourself, but you need someone to pick you up and stay with you until the next morning.
In general, after surgery, wounds are left open to allow secretions to drain away. These must be rinsed several times a day in the weeks that follow, then treated with a special ointment.
It is very important, especially after surgery, for the stools to be soft and to pass easily. This can often be achieved by taking psyllium husks or mild laxatives.
